Since May 2003, the development of Iraqi institutions has been a priority and Italy immediately made resources available in the fields of health care, higher education, justice, water, energy, transport, IT development and for theprotection of the country's cultural heritagge. The 83 Italian consultants sent to Iraq made their own professional expertise available for the reconstruction of Iraqi institutions on the national level (Ministries for Culture, Water Resources, Power, Health, Education, Technological Innovation, Oil, Domestic Affairs, Law, Finance and Transport) and locally, supporting the Provincial Authorities of Dhi Qar, where Italy is now leading a Reconstruction Support Unit.
More than 2200 Iraqi citizens have been able to benefit from training coursed funded by the Iraq Task Force: among these, Iraqi oil engineers, water and power technicians, reporters, TV operators, diplomats, police officers, law operators, public employees committed in fighting corruption, institutional communications operators, institution managers, employees from the Independent Voting Commission, students and researchers. Courses for over 700 participants have been scheduled for 2007 in Italy.
